The history of MEISSEN, the oldest porcelain manufactory in Europe, has been written. Preserved, archived and stored in the numerous records of our company archive, in the rich collection of our porcelain museum, in the thousands and thousands of plaster molds in our mold archive and even in every single stone and every creaking hardwood floorboard in our manufactory building. And so the story now stands - beginning with the discovery of the first European hard porcelain by Böttger and Tschirnhaus in 1708 and the founding of the "Königlich-Polnische und Kurfürstlich-Sächsische Porzellan-Manufaktur" ("Royal Polish and Electoral Saxon Porcelain Manufactory") by Augustus the Strong in 1710 right up to the present day. The time has come to continue writing the history of MEISSEN and to add something new - time for "Nova".

"Nova" - Latin for "new" - is the new, unusual design language for the table, whose unique sophistication becomes clear at first glance:You will look in vain for classic, circular plates here. And that's how it should be. Product designer Zhuoyu Hou began the development with a multitude of visions. Her new collection was to be a departure from traditional ideas. The familiar arrangement of mirror (recessed plate) and flag (pronounced rim of the plate) was to be completely different from anything that had gone before. The design was to reflect the zeitgeist of our era and be in clear interplay with functionality.

The result is a sophisticated interplay of round and angular, circle and square. The key idea combines the old with the new. Ancient Chinese coins from 2,000 years ago, which were circular on the outside and had a square hole with a practical background in the middle, provided the impetus to play with shapes. In doing so, Zhuoyu Hou was able to capture the design essence of modern technical devices such as smartphones or tablets and, in line with her vision, depict the spirit of the current era.
